We decided to use the services of Serious Intentions after successful work they had undertaken with two groups of our students the last year. This term they worked with two groups of Year 11 girls' and boys' students. The girls' were referred to the group for issues surrounding self-esteem and social and emotional development. The boys were difficult students last year and it was clear from my observations that they did not access the curriculum; they were also stopping others from learning.
I cannot believe the changes;during my round of observations this academic year the changes are remarkable. Having spoken to staff, the levels of achievement have increased and individual attitudes have become way more positive. Maturity is now evident.Perhaps the most marked improvement is in the individual’s level of self-confidence. This is where learning mentors have seen the evidence. The boys' are more confident in their ability and have now begun to realise their true potential. On the whole, a huge improvement, which has impacted on the boys both academically and socially .
There have been unbelievable improvements in the girls' attitude towards school life in general. There have also been huge improvements since their participation; this has been noted across the board.
>From a social and emotional point of view the girls' are much more aware of others and their feelings, as before they could be described as students who make negative personal comments about others. The girls' are much more controlled and now fully understand that every action has a consequence.
The girls' attitude has changed remarkably and they are now really valuing school, they are also beginning to consider what they need to do for their future, and to fulfil their true potential. I have spoken to the girls' teachers and they have all reported marked improvements in attitude and in attainment levels; “a huge turnaround” according to the teachers.
The girls', boys', myself and members of staff cannot speak highly enough of Serious Intentions and their benefits of the involvement.

Serious Intentions delivered three programmes over five days while away with us on a week-long residential in Wales. Each evening different social skills were covered including anger, peer pressure and communication.
The programmes were very interactive and were a positive experience for all of the young people; many of them commented that they wish their lessons in school were all like the ones' delivered by Serious Intentions. I was also impressed by the programmes and the delivery.

Serious Intentions has played a significant role at Kingsbury High School, working with young people at risk of losing motivation. Steve's programmes, which I have observed at first hand, engage students in making positive life choices and then, through school assemblies, share and celebrate the journey they have been on".

I have been privileged to watch Steve working with challenging, disaffected and vulnerable young people for whom learning to RESPECT themselves and others has been key to changing their attitudes and improving their life chances.
I have been very impressed by his book and I also recommend Steve’s various life skills programmes, which give young people a chance to change and in turn make a difference to their lives and the communities in which they live.

Steve's presentation was both motivational and logical. During this assembly he galvanised 600 young people and several attendant staff with his presentation. He used a quick-fire 'wake up' technique to seize the attention of the young people and talked to them in language they understood.
He was smartly dressed and very presentable and I would imagine is capable of working with a wide range of young people and adults. He is working in one of the most difficult areas of development, namely raising the achievement of black and white working class young people. I am happy to give a reference which recommends him highly as a speaker and presenter to young people either in small or large groups.

Steve has been working with two groups of students this year. He has run a 12 week programme aiming to aspire and motivate young adults, ending with a presentation ceremony in year group assemblies. The first group of year 8 boys have found the programme and especially Steve to be an inspiration and great motivator. These students have started to make changes in their lives which they hope will be long-lasting. The group of year 8 boys have had a blast with Steve and look forward to working with him again, sometime in the future. During our Ofsted Inspection one of the inspectors met with Steve and some of the boys who had taken part in the programme. She found this intervention strategy to be ‘outstanding’. Thank you Steve.
The second group of students Steve worked with were under motivated Year 11 Gifted and Talented students. Over the course of the programme Steve helped them to aim high, come out of their shell, take risks and ultimately take responsibility for their learning and future. Again all students spoke extremely high of the programme and Steve and were glad they had had the opportunity to take part in it.
A thoroughly engaging and motivating programme which I would highly recommend.

Serious Intentions is a very good programme that has been tailored to suit the needs of young people.
It is facilitated by the use of resources that young people can relate to very easily, whilst at the same time learning about specific topics. E.g. Capital Punishment and Body language.
It has been of great enjoyment and benefit for all students that participated, and will be of great benefit to other year groups as well as year 10’s.

Steve’s assembly was extremely dynamic and interactive. The Year 10 students were fully engaged and it was clear to see that this was an ideal way to communicate with people of their age. With a group of over 200 students, it would have been easy for them to get carried away with the activity and ruin the flow of the presentation, but Steve was able to orchestrate the group and dictate his rhythm, whilst also giving them adequate reflection time throughout.
I can honestly say that this is the most enthused I have seen this Year 10 group, since being their Head of Year since Year 8, at that time of the morning! The message and theme of Respect was very clear and the students never lost focus of that point. What was achieved, in only twenty five minutes, is a testament to the effectiveness of Serious Intentions.

An excellent contribution to the development of the mind set of our children taking them from a dependent approach to an interdependent state of wellbeing. The programme spanned over a number of weeks within which a number of noticeable transformations were seen in the greater majority of the pupils. The students greatly benefitted from the 11 weeks session evidenced in their individual feedback on its outcomes and what they have learnt.
In the words of some of the students who participated in the programme “it made me reflect on my interaction with others”, “I feel more confident around others and I definitely learnt something” “I will definitely try to improve myself for my benefit and those of others”.
The feedback from the support staff was equally eloquent with praise. “Every time the session took place I felt the intensity and concentration at which the pupils took in their learning. The presenter was wonderful and gave well animated, well developed sessions that was absolving and exciting. The programme delivery took the pupils along at a reason pace – It was an excellent programme for the pupils”
I was amaze at the professionalism of the presenter - Mr. Steve Beckles-Ebusua who gave his all at each session which cumulated in an award ceremony and a wonderful presentation to the whole year group during their assembly.
I believe the programme will benefit all groups of pupils irrespective of their levels of attainment and achievement. I can only see further
On behalf of the students I say a heartfelt thank to the programme organisers for the opportunity, funding and time given, in my view all well spent. It was a great pleasure to have your company “serious intentions” and most especially Mr. Steve Beckles-Ebusua at our school and can only hope this is a beginning of more concerted cooperation.

Student A’s behaviour in lessons has drastically improved, the comments on his reports are so much more positive..As a tutor I really find that student A does listen now when we have a discussion, while he used to look away and daydream when spoken to. Student A acts much more maturely when participating in group talks/work and has completely lost his "role" of "entertainer". It is really a pleasure to have student in tutor/PSHE lessons and his contribution is noticeable.
Student B used to be very confrontational with some of her teachers and was doing no or little work in some subjects. I have noticed a few months ago that Student B’s attitude towards staff and learning has improved very much.

Serious Intentions worked with us at Holly Street on a short-term youth participation project specifically steered towards children and young people from hard to reach backgrounds. They were asked to deliver three social development workshops focusing on CV writing, interview techniques and positive images. The young people he was working with came from an estate, which was notorious for drug and gang culture, and were often reluctant to take part in social development programmes of this nature.
Serious Intentions were able to tackle this problem by producing lesson plans which tied in with the young people’s interests, for example, the young people had expressed that they had a keen interest in football, hence the facilitator used the concept of “Football” to highlight to the young people the importance of portraying a positive image of oneself in order to gain respect and fulfil ambitions, by looking at some of the characteristics of different players and comparing those to some of the young people.
The facilitator was also able to use current affairs to engage the young people in discussions getting them thinking more positively. The feedback from the young people was great and they enjoyed the way in which the facilitator approached the workshops;he was “funny” and “on their level” and did not come across “patronising” or “boring” which is what most of the young people had experienced in workshops from previous projects.
I found Serious Intentions to be a committed, focused and inspirational organisation that had the ability to gauge groups and adapt to their way of learning. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Serious Intentions, and have received positive feedback from the young people with whom they have engaged. I would definitely recommend their work with other projects.

This is the second year we have used Serious Intentions as part of the ASDAN Pathway 2 Progress Workshops, incorporating the PSHE module and Steve’s method of engaging and motivating our vulnerable young people has been very successful. I would like to thank Steve for the excellent programme Serious Intentions have delivered.
These particular young people are in the process of leaving care and currently not involved in any education, employment or training (EET). Some have been in the Public care system throughout their lives. Therefore they have a tendency to be reluctant to participate in activities or engage in group activities and pull no punches in expressing how they feel. However, throughout the programme the young people have actively participated and engaged in the various activities Serious Intentions have delivered.
Steve’s involvement in the ASDAN Pathway 2 Progress Workshops has been invaluable and has made a constructive difference to this vulnerable group of young people. Feedback from the attendees, have all been positive and a testament to the success of Serious Intentions.
We hope Steve will continue to work with us in delivering positive activities to children and young people in care.
Congratulations Steve and keep up the good work!

A Year 11 student was referred to us due to behavioural and learning issues within school. He was of great concern to the Head teacher. We contacted Serious Intentions regarding this student and they began a 6 week mentoring programme.
Since being on the Serious Intentions mentoring programme the student has shown a marked improvement in their attendance, behaviour and attitude to teachers, peers and school in general.
We have extended the mentoring programme in order to consolidate the
positive changes that have been made.

Serious Intentions delivered a programme on understanding respect and the power of communication programmes for our young people; the communication and social skills delivery was excellent. I believe the young people really benefited from these sessions.

I would recommend Serious Intentions to anyone who needs energy, enthusiasm and a change in mindset in relation to their young people.

“My son had been excluded several times and was placed on a Pastoral Support Programme (PSP). There was a strong possibility that he would be permanently excluded from school. Steve guided him through this very difficult period through mentoring and life skills sessions. Thank you for being the guide for my son to remain in school and complete his education.”

“My daughter had been placed on to a Pastoral Support Programme (PSP) due to her anger issues and poor behaviour. I contacted Steve to help her complete the PSP. He managed to achieve this successfully by teaching her vital life skills to improve her anger, focus and general behaviour in school.”

“My two teenage sons had major problems getting along and was a major concern of mine. Steve was the perfect solution to my problem, he provided mentoring and solution focus sessions to develop their understanding of each other and lessen the confrontation between each other.”
Parent in Enfield
“My son was mentored by Steve who presented the sessions in a professional, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The sessions were predominantly by powerpoint, which made them easy to follow and understand and gave a visual perspective to the sessions rather than just verbal. The sessions have helped my son to ‘think outside the box’ and ‘look at the bigger picture’ and have taught him some valuable life skills. The sessions were enjoyed by both my son and I and we have both benefited from them.”

I approached Serious Intentions after hearing about the good work they do at a case conference I attended. After checking their website and reading the variety of services they offer, we decided to run a 10 week workshop for our clients who were aged 16-24 years.
The feedback from the clients has been excellent. At some points during the programme, other clients and their friends were trying to attend as they had heard good things about it - we had to turn them away as the programme was full!
Steve is enthusiastic, committed and engages well with young people. We are currently liaising with him about running another workshop at the end of summer, so that our clients who were at college, and therefore unable to attend; can engage with the workshop. We have a waiting list of people wanting to attend!
